Ms. Ora L. Lee was born on July 4, 1940, in Effingham
County, Georgia, to the late Sam John (S.J.) and Bertha
Jackson Lee. At an early age, she joined Jordan Baptist
Church of Sylvania, Georgia. She attended Screven County
public school system and graduated in 1959 from Central
High School, Sylvania, Georgia. Upon finishing high school,
Ora moved to Savannah, Georgia, where she furthered her
education at Savannah State College and worked in the
Savannah area. Later, Ora moved to Washington, D.C., where
she resided for over forty years. Ora attended Friendship
Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ Pentecostal Church. She
was employed by the Hecht’s Department Store a division of
Macys Corporation as Department Manager. She retired and
moved back to Georgia. After returning back to Georgia, Ora
reunited with Jordan Missionary Baptist Church and actively
served as the President of the Church Mission Department
and was a faithful member of the Choir. Ora was preceded
in death by her sister Mae Dean Burns. Ora leaves to cherish
her memories: siblings, Velma (Herman) Benton, Willie David
(Eva Mae) Lee, Woodrow (Dorsey) Lee, Birt (Greg) Zellner,
and Craig Lee, all of Sylvania, Georgia, and Margaret (Sam)
Jones of Statesboro, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives, and friends.
