James Edward W arren was born October 26, 1938, to the late
Thomas (Buddy) Warren, Sr., and Aseliend Smith Lawton.
James was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lucille Warren; daughter,
Sherri Warren; brothers, Robert Lee Warren, Wilfred Warren, and Waymon
Lawton; and sisters, Shirley Lawton and Alma Kittrell.
He was educated in the Screven County school system; soon after, he joined
the United States Army Force Services.
After serving in the military, James (Jimmy) lived in New York for many
years. Later, he moved to Miami, Florida where he worked for Pepsi
Cola. One day he decided that Sylvania, Georgia would be where he’d call
home, going back to his roots. Coming to Sylvania opened a new family
opportunity to Jimmy; he had the chance to meet his daughter, Sherri, and
granddaughter, Ebony.
Jimmy was all too proud of one of his accomplishments: completing his
license to become a Deacon at New Home Welcome Baptist Church of
Sylvania, Georgia. Earning the right to be called Deacon James Warren was
a proud moment for him.
Jimmy, or Uncle Jimmy as we called him, didn’t just sit still, he got out and
learned all about Sylvania. He became the maintenance man, mechanic,
and the transportation services. Call Jimmy, and he would be right there.
However at some point in the day he had to make room in his busy schedule
to go to “WORK” (take a nap) because it was mandatory for the job.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his loving memories: one son, James Warren, Jr.,
of New York; five brothers, William Lawton of Savannah, GA, Thomas
(Rolanda) Warren, Jr., of Alabama, Raymond Warren, Norman Michael
Warren, and Reverend Ronald Williams, all of Sylvania, GA; seven sisters,
Gladys Pratt of Jacksonville, FL, Bernice Maycock of Pembroke, GA, Betty
Lawton of Sylvania, GA, Bertha Warren (Virgil) Johnson of Augusta, GA,
Constance Warren (LeVern) Hickman of Augusta, GA, Christine Warren
(Earnest) Jackson of Alabama, and Parell Warren Darville of Augusta, GA;
and a host grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, other family members,
and friends.
